"It's mental out there": People 'effectively trapped' in gridlock traffic following A27 closure
The closure of the A27 between Havant and Emsworth has caused chaos on the roads with one driver describing it as ‘mental out there’.
The closure was confirmed earlier this week by National Highways and it will be in place until Monday, September 23 at 6am. The road closure is so that essential bridge repairs can be completed - last weekend, there was also a full road closure westbound on the same stretch of road, causing considerable delays.
The closure this weekend is taking place on the eastbound carriageway but, as a result, delays are impacting traffic on Hayling Island. Some drivers have been stuck in traffic for more than two hours while they try to get off of the island.

The News has been posting regular updates about the traffic and delays in the area and one reader said: “ It took me 2 hours to get of hayling and gridlocked in Havant.”
Jackie Frith commented on our post. She said: “Delays don’t really describe it. It’s mental out there.”
