Train disruption: Lines reopened between Havant and Chichester after barrier fault

Commuters on the railway have had to deal with infrastructure problems once again

All railway lines between two stations have reopened following an earlier mechanical fault.

Southern Rail reported a problem earlier this morning between Havant and Chichester. All lines were blocked in both directions and passengers were advised to delay their commute to work.

The train company said a problem with a level crossing barrier fault caused delays and alterations to the timetable. Engineers from Network Rail are now on hand and the problem has been fixed.

The issued impacted people travelling from Portsmouth Harbour to London Victoria, as well as Southampton Central to Brighton.

In a social media statement, Southern Rail said: “Network Rail staff on site have taken control of the barriers and made it safe for trains to run. Lines have now been reopened and trains can run through this area once more.”
