Fratton Station Footbridge closed for a week for refurbishment a year after reopening
Footbridge closed for refurbishment work
A footbridge that was closed for five months last year has once again been shut has refurbishment works are carried out.
The 128-year-old bridge connects the Fratton Railway Station entrance on Selbourne Terrace to Goldsmith Avenue on the other side of the tracks. Rail commuters and the public are now being diverted on a six minute walk via Fratton Road.
Work began on the bridge on Friday, October 30 at 10pm and it is not expected to reopen until Sunday, November 8 at 6am.

The refurbishment is taking place despite extensive structural and restoration work undertaken last year, which saw the bridge closed from the start of February until the end of July. That project was hit with delays due to the discovery that additional steel work repairs were required to strengthen the bridge. It was initially meant to open in April but was delayed by three months.
A National Rail spokesperson said: “The footbridge at Fratton station will be closed from 10pm on Friday, October 30 to 6am on Sunday, November 8, for refurbishment work. The walking diversion from Goldsmith Avenue takes around 6 minutes, please allow extra time for your journey.”
