Firefighters expected to remain at A31 heathland blaze near M27 for several days after working through the night
Firefighters have worked through the night
Emergency services have worked through the night to control a massive blaze that originated from a van fire and spread to nearby heathland.
The A31 remains closed in both directions between M27 junction 1 (Cadnam) and A338 Salisbury Road after a fire broke out on August 9 and started ripping through land off the stretch off road.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said more than 100 hectares have been affacted, with crews from across Hampshire including Fareham and Gosport attending the scene.

In an updated statement, the fire service said: “Our crews are set to work into the night again as they continue to tackle the fire off of the A31. We expect to have a significant presence for several days, as we work to protect this beautiful part of the New Forest.
“We are being supported by the Rapid Relief Team, who provide food and drink to help fuel our firefighters as they work in challenging conditions, to resolve this incident. We are incredibly grateful for the kind and generous offers from local residents to support our crews with refreshments.
“While this support is greatly appreciated, we kindly ask members of the public to avoid the area so that emergency vehicles can continue to access the scene safely.”
