Emergency closure of busy Portsmouth road this weekend after a gas leak

Road closure after gas leak

A busy Portsmouth road will be closed this weekend for emergency repairs to fix a gas leak.

A section of Havant Road in Drayton will be closed by gas distribution company SGN from 8pm on Friday evening (July 17) until 5am on Monday (July 20), with a diversion in place for drivers and temporary changes to bus routes.

A spokesperson for SGN said: “Following a gas escape, our engineers need to urgently complete replacement and connection activity across Havant Road at the junction of Burrill Avenue. Due to the location of the gas main in the road, for everyone’s safety, a temporary hard road closure will be in place at Burrill Avenue.

“We appreciate how disruptive this road closure may be for residents and wider road users. We assure you we will be working as quickly and as safely as possible to complete these urgent works to minimise disruption for the community.

“We're sorry in advance for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Two diversion routes are in place:

Diversion route one

Eastern Road (A2030) - Havant Bypass (A27) - Portsbridge Roundabout - Northern Rd (A397)

Diversion route two

Farlington Avenue - Portsdown Hill Road (B2177) - London Road (A3)

Vehicle access to properties/businesses and side roads on Havant Road will be maintained.
