Drivers given warning as another M27 closure announced – here's when, where and the diversion route

Drivers are being advised of an overnight closure on the M27 as part of ongoing improvement works at Junction 10.

Lanes two and three of the eastbound carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Thursday, February 19, until 6am on Friday, February 20, to allow for the installation of a new gantry sign.

During the works, the eastbound on-slip at M27 Junction 10 towards Fareham will also be closed.

This closure will support the wider North Hill junction upgrade scheme, which is being delivered by developer Welborne.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel. The A32 will be available as an alternative route.

Hampshire County Council has confirmed that the works are weather-dependent and may need to be rescheduled at short notice in the event of adverse conditions.

Further information and updates are available on the county council website.

The latest closure comes after the motorway was shut between junctions 9 and 11 for 10 days over Christmas and New Year.

Hampshire County Council said it was “an extraordinary achievement after one of the most complex engineering operations Hampshire has ever delivered”.

In a statement when the route reopened, the council said: “Over the previous ten days, around 130 people worked day and night through the Christmas period, contributing a combined 10,000 hours to install a brand‑new underpass at Junction 10 using an innovative ‘box slide’ technique.

“A 60‑metre concrete structure, weighing 8,500 tonnes was slid 65 metres into place with millimetre precision, avoiding months of lane closures and disruption.

“The team worked continuously, day and night, from Christmas Eve until 3 January to complete this major operation safely and efficiently.

“A big thank you to everyone for your patience while this essential construction work took place.”

The installation of the new underpass paves the way for Junction 10 to be made into an ‘all ways’ junction - meaning you can enter and exit in both directions. Currently, this is only possible in one direction.

The works have been prompted by the construction of the new 6,000-home town at Welborne Garden Village, where construction is new underway and the first homes sold.
