Council invests in Hayling Island seafront improvements
Drainage improvement works are set to begin next week at a busy Hayling Island carpark.
Three weeks of works will begin on Monday (June 1) at West Beach car park to improve drainage on site, reducing the ongoing issues of standing water which impact its use.
Costing £23,000, the improvements by Havant Borough Council are designed to be easily maintained and cleaned with the design approved earlier in the year, and trials carried out. But the trials themselves experienced flooding, meaning the full works could not start earlier in the year.

The council has said that over the three week period parking in the immediate area will be limited, with the West Beach car park already having regularly reached capacity during the recent hot spell.
Councillor Netty Shepherd, deputy leader of the council and cabinet lead for public realm, said " I'm delighted to see this investment into Hayling seafront and welcome the improvements it brings.

“The significant drainage issues at West Beach have been especially problematic over the winter months, with this scheme we are improving both access and the usability of our wonderful beaches, all year round."
The design for the improvements was undertaken by the council's Civil Engineering and Landscape Team (CELT).
