LIVE Updates: Train services disrupted at Portsmouth railway stations with safety inspection underway

Train services between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour are expected to be disrupted until the end of the day following a track safety inspection this morning.

A safety inspection is taking place on the track over a bridge near Hilsea with “significant speed restrictions” in place on Thursday, March 12. Southern Rail advised that services stopped at Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth & Southsea, Fratton and Hilsea for a while but the lines have now reopened.

Journey times will be around 20 to 30 minutes longer than usual for the rest of the day with some services being diverted to alternative destinations.

A Southern Rail spokesperson said: “Safety inspections of the track over a bridge are taking place near Hilsea, causing delays to trains between Havant and Portsmouth.

“Whilst these checks are carried out, there will be a significant speed restriction in the direction towards Portsmouth.

“Southern expect journeys in this area will take around 20 minutes longer as a result, and if there is no direct service on your normal route, you may need to change trains to get to your destination.”

Southern Rail are advising to check your journey online beforehand, and when travelling, to check station screens and listen to announcements.

Further details on the disruption can be found on the National Rail website.
