Passengers trying to reach Southampton must take a lengthy diversion.

All trains between Fareham and Southampton Central have been cancelled this morning (Thursday, June 4), it has been reported.

The railway lines between the two stations are all blocked at the time of publication, thanks to a tree that has fallen down.

Posting on X, a spokesperson for Southern Rail said: “There is a tree blocking the railway between Fareham and Southampton Central. All lines are blocked at this time between these stations and trains will be altered as a result.

“Southern services which run between Brighton and Southampton Central will divert after Havant into Portsmouth and Southsea and restart from there.

“This does mean Southern services will not run between Fareham and Southampton Central.”

Anyone trying to reach Southampton from Fareham is advised to take one of the South Western Railway trains up to Southampton Airport Parkway, as these run on a separate line that isn’t blocked off. From there, you can change train and head back to Southampon Central.
