A3(M): Diversions in place for drivers forced to turn around after 'serious incident'

The A3(M) remains closed due to a “serious” police led incident - with National Highways advising drivers of diversions.

The road has been closed in both directions between junction 5 Broadmarsh Interchange (Portsmouth, Fareham A27 (M27); Drayton, Cosham, A2030, Chichester (A27)) and junction 3 Waterlooville Interchange (Waterlooville, Denmead, Havant, B2150).

“Hampshire Police, South Coast Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are attending a serious incident near junction 4,” National Highways said.

“National Highways has Traffic Officers and contractors assisting in closing the road and assisting with traffic management.

“Road users caught within the closure will be turned around in due course by Hampshire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers. Please await instructions from them at the scene. It may take some time to release all the vehicles caught within the closure. Your patience is appreciated.”

Diversion Routes

Northbound (follow route marked with a solid diamond symbol on local road signs):

• Exit the A3(M) at J5.
• At the roundabout take the third exit on to the B2177 Bedhampton Hill.
• At the next roundabout take the third exit on to the B2177 Bedhampton Road.
• Continue to the junction with the B2150 Hulbert Road.
• Turn left and follow the B2150 Hulbert Road to the roundabout with Purbrook Way.
• Take the third exit to remain on the B2150.
• At the A3(M) J3. At the roundabout take the third exit to re-join the A3(M).

Southbound (follow route marked with a solid triangle symbol on local road signs):

• Exit the A3(M) at J3.
• At the roundabout take the first exit on to the B2150 Hulbert Road.
• Continue to the Purbrook Way roundabout.
• At the roundabout take the second exit to continue on the B2150.
• At the T-junction with the B2177 Bedhampton Road.
• Turn right on to the B2177 Bedhamton Road.
• At the next roundabout take the first exit on to the B2177 Bedhampton Hill.
• Continue to the A3(M) J5 interchange.
• At the roundabout take the first exit on to the A2030.
• Continue to the A2030 link road to the A27 Harts Farm Interchange.
• Take the first exit from the roundabout to join the A27 eastbound or the second exit to join the A27 westbound (via the A2030).
