This Hampshire city has been dubbed divorce hotspot in the UK, research reveals

Despite being named a romantic city earlier this year, Portsmouth has now also taken the title of the third worst area in the UK for divorce rates.

This follows a published study by Tarotoo, based on data from the Office for National Statistics, which outlines Norwich has taken the top spot with 12.76 divorces per 1,000 married people, closely followed by Lincoln with 11.93.

The data, which looked at 49 areas across the UK, also highlights that divorce rates in Portsmouth sit at 11.61. In 2023, there were 103, 816 divorces across the country.

At the end of last month the city was found to be the 13th most romantic place in the UK based on nine measurable indicators including romance-related Google searches, high-rated romantic restaurants, romantic hotels and proposal and wedding photographers.
