Steel framework at Bransbury Park almost complete as leisure centre project continues
Bransbury Park update
Three distinct roof levels at a multi-million pound leisure centre are taking shape as the steel framework nears completion.
Bransbury Park, in Southsea, is in the process of benefiting from a significant transformation as more than £22 million is being invested to create a state-of-the-art leisure centre.

Once complete the centre will be home to fitness studios, a main pool, leaner pool, gym and a GP practice.
In a recent bulletin update from Portsmouth City Council’s Bransbury Park team, which is overseeing the project, it said: “The steel frame is now nearly complete and has reached almost its full height. The building has been designed with three distinct roof levels, which are now really starting to take shape.
“The tallest section on the left will be home to the GP surgery, consulting rooms and fitness studios. The central section will house the main reception area and changing facilities, while the larger section on the right will contain both swimming pools and the gym.
“Work is also progressing on the first floor structure, with sections of the floor and roof now being installed.”

Incredible progress is also being made on the first floor. Acoustic mats have been installed in this part of the site to help reduce noise from overnight work currently taking place. The next step for this level will be to install steel reinforcement mesh across the floor deck before concrete is poured on top.
A sand layer is now being laid on the ground floor ahead of insulation and a gas membrane being installed. The membrane will serve as a protective barrier beneath the building, and once in place, steel reinforcement bars will be fixed and tied into the connection points.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of next year, with BH Live due to take over and operate the site.

Last month, representatives from Portsmouth City Council, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, local healthcare partners, Willmott Dixon, Mace and BH Live toured the site to celebrate the completion of the pool shells.
As previously reported by The News, Councillor Steve Pitt, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said:"The new centre will create opportunities for people of all ages to be active, learn to swim, improve their health and wellbeing, and enjoy sport close to home.
“It is absolutely incredible to see the progress here in less than six month into the project and you can now see how the spaces are going t be used. It’s really exciting and it’s a national first to have a GP surgery and leisure centre in one space.”
