Shrubland fire breaks out in Havant field as firefighters issue stark warning to neighbours
“The hot weather has seen our teams deal with a large number of outdoor fires in recent weeks,” the fire service said.
Firefighters have issued a clear warning to residents after yet another fire in the ongoing drought.
This afternoon (Friday, July 31), a blaze erupted in a field off Fitzwygram Way, Havant. The large field fire led to neighbours having to close their doors and windows, such was the amount of smoke rising into the neighbourhood.

While the fire is now under control, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has pointed towards the fact that while the fire might not have been started deliberately, it could have been a man-made incident.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Having extinguished the shrubland fire, crews are now beginning to leave the scene in Havant. One crew will return later this evening to conduct a reinspection of the land, checking for any signs of hotspots.
“The hot weather has seen our teams deal with a large number of outdoor fires in recent weeks.
“If you're looking to enjoy the countryside this weekend, ensure you know how to protect it from wildfire. Don't light barbecues or campfires, extinguish your cigarettes properly, and take your litter home with you.”
It comes after a number of similar incidents throughout Portsmouth and the surrounding area this week.
A blaze erupted in Posbrook Lane, Titchfield, on Monday, July 27, coming from a combine harvester and spreading to two nearby fields. The following day, a four-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with serious burns, via a scorching ash pile from an abandoned fire in Foxes Forest, Hilsea.
