Saving slogans

These days we are encouraged to recycle and save everything that is recoverable.

During the Second World War matters were just the same, when everyone was told to save and recover everything they could. The campaign even went as far as printing slogans on envelopes over the stamp and postmark. Here we see an envelope sent in by Mike Hill, the secretary of Waterlooville Stamp Club. The slogans can just about be made out. They are: ‘Save waster paper, metals, bones, rags’ and ‘Grow more food, dig for victory’.
