Fareham Borough Council van stolen with fears individuals could "masquerade" as council officers
A council says one of its vans has been stolen - and is worried that individuals could impersonate its staff.
The council has taken to social media urging members of the public to contact the police if they spot one of its vans which was pinched yesterday (February 23).
The transit-style caged vehicle, which is primarily used for collecting litter bins and small fly-tipping, has the registration number CV22 HSO.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We are also asking residents and businesses to remain alert, as there is a risk the vehicle could be misused or that individuals could masquerade as Council officers. Thank you for your vigilance and support.”
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been contacted regarding the theft, with Fareham Borough Council advising people not to approach the vehicle if they see it.
Contact the police quoting reference number 44260089828 if you see the van.
