'We want to put Portsmouth100 spirit into action': Couple set centenary target to raise £10,000 for charities
Bobby and Rozina Mehta plan year-long series of challenges - starting with the Pompey Sleepout at Fratton Park
Husband and wife Bobby and Rozina Mehta have made a vow to raise as much money as possible for good causes in Portsmouth as their own way of marking the city’s centenary.

The community-spirited couple, who have two children Daniel and Sarah, have set themselves a target of £10,000 through their personal Portsmouth100 challenge for five organisations tackling issues ranging from isolation and youth opportunity to dementia support and historic preservation.
Their series of challenges and community events starts tomorrow when they take part in the Pompey Sleepout at Fratton Park - spending a night on the terraces in aid of the Spark Community Space and Pompey in The Community.
Bobby and Rozina’s challenge runs until the end of the year and will see money also raised for Dementia UK, The Mary Rose Museum and Urbond. The funds will be split equally, with nearly £3,000 already raised,

Rozina, the founder and managing director of business consultancy RMC Services, said: ‘Having seen the incredible work these charities do, this initiative is personal. We believe strong communities are built on inclusion, opportunity, health, education, sport and heritage.
‘Our chosen charities reflect this broad vision with each charity playing a distinct role locally and nationally. Spark Community Space provides meals and social support for those facing isolation, while Pompey in the Community and Urbond work with young people through sport, education and outreach programmes. Dementia UK offers specialist support for families navigating dementia and The Mary Rose Museum preserves one of the country’s most significant historic artefacts for future generations.
‘Our fundraising drive coincides with Portsmouth 100, a year-long celebration marking a century since the city was granted official status and we hope our campaign will reflect the spirit of the milestone by investing in both the city’s people and its heritage. By raising money for these five local and national charities, we want to put that spirit into action.’

Bobby, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) at the University of Portsmouth, added: "During this centenary year we don't just want to look back with pride - we want to build forward with purpose. 2026 is a time to honour our city’s rich heritage, vibrant communities and bold future.”
