Portsmouth's Send It 100 festival to feature Europe's largest vert ramp alongside world famous musicians

Celebrate Portsmouth's centenary with Send It 100 festival, featuring Scouting for Girls, Toploader, and Europe's largest vert ramp at Pitt Street Skatepark.

A brand new family festival will launch in Portsmouth this September at Pitt Street Skatepark to celebrate the city’s centenary,

Send It 100 will feature some world-class music performances from Scouting for Girls, Toploader, Don Letts, Wilkinson and Ardee, as well as multiple extreme sports showcases.

“I wanted to do something major for the 100 years anniversary,” said Jacob Skinner, co-founder of Pitt St Skatepark, a non-profit skate organisation which was established in an old Sainsbury’s supermarket on Commercial Road in 2022.

“I have been stood looking over the old supermarket car park thinking its such a waste, but I managed to get permission to use it for the event.”

The event will also see the erection of the largest vert ramp in Europe, which Jacob said will be “a very impressive sight.”

A vert ramp is a U-shaped ramp which is flat at the bottom and becomes completely vertical at the top, launching skaters high into the air.

“I remember being a kid and watching someone on a vert ramp in Gunwharf Quays and I think everyone should see that,” he said.

The event will be running both in and outdoors, and music and skating showcases will be running all weekend. It will also feature a market packed with local traders, free coaching from the Academy of Wheels, workshops, food and drink, and family activities.

The event will be run with Portsmouth City Council, and all the money raised from the event will go straight back into the skatepark.

Tickets start from £25. Jacob said: “We want everyone to be able to afford it and come along.”
