It comes after 11 people, including a 97-year-old woman, were gunned down inside the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill on Saturday.

During the short service held in the city centre, the names of the victims were read aloud and those who attended talked about not allowing anti-semitism rise.

Portsmouth South Labour MP Stephen Morgan sent a statement to be read out.

It said: '˜I was horrified by the senseless act of violence and racism committed in Pittsburgh this weekend.

'˜It showed us, in the most heartbreaking and graphic way, that anti-semitism and racism remains an all too powerful poison in our society.

'˜Tonight we show solidarity to the victims and their families of this heartless act.'
