Spud Fusion seeks planning approval to secure future on Goldsmith Avenue
Spud Fusion has applied to Portsmouth City Council for planning permission, a move that could secure the popular venue’s future for years.
Agents ‘Town Planning Expert’ have submitted a retrospective planning application on behalf of applicant Shahriar Uddin for the jacket potato business.

The venue has been operating since September 2025, when it first opened as ‘Spud Father’ before rebranding to ‘Spud Fusion’ following a controversial trademark battle with Preston-based SpudBros, who now have a location on Commercial Road.
The application seeks to officially regularise the site’s use as a static hot-food takeaway trailer, a site previously used as a car wash.
Located on Goldsmith Avenue, the site is opposite the bridge that connects the road to Fratton Railway Station.
Planning documents state the site has “been in use as various commercial operations since records began.”
“The more specific principle of a static food trailer, without parking or seating, ought to be considered acceptable as it is in a location with heavy foot traffic, being located directly opposite a busy train station, in a location where those who are walking from the station to Fratton Park, are likely to walk past.
“The hot food trailer provides additional services and employment to the area. Football match days are the business’ most popular days, due to the amount of people exiting the train station to walk to Fratton Park.
“Having an additional hot-food option for match watchers is beneficial as it helps to support local businesses in a manner which has no negative consequences for parking or land-use efficiency.”
Spud Fusion offers classic and “gourmet” jacket potatoes with toppings varying from cheese, chilli con carne, and garlic chilli chicken.
