Southsea flat seeks roof extension
A GRADE-II listed building in Southsea could be set for a roof extension.
Members of Portsmouth City Council’s planning committee are due to consider granting permission for a roof extension and extra windows for a first floor flat above the Storytime Nursery in Queens Place, Southsea.

If given the go ahead the extension will project approximately two metres from the rear elevation, at just over three metres in height with a mono-pitched roof, served by two rooflights.
In a report to be heard by the council it said: ‘The extension would be constructed of brick work to match the existing, with a natural slate roof with ‘conservation style’ rooflights and double glazed timber framed doors, painted white, to match the existing fenestration.
‘The application would also include the alteration of a door to a window on an existing element, to match the existing.’
However, one objection to the extension has been raised by nearby resident Peta Ruttle. In her objection she said: ‘I strongly object to this further application to the roof of what was Kersey House.
‘The rear of these properties are living cheek by jowl as it is and any further building work will have a huge detrimental affect upon our light and privacy, not to mention having a detrimental affect on the value of Crescent House.
‘It is not just a roof extension. It is totally inappropriate for the space and position and will severely cut out light and even further invade our privacy.’
A decision will be made during a virtual planning committee meeting on Wednesday, October 7.
