Search begins for Portsmouth’s unsung heroes as Civic Awards open

The search is under way to find people and organisations going above and beyond for their communities, with nominations now open for this year’s Portsmouth Civic Awards.

Run by Portsmouth City Council for more than 20 years, the awards recognise individuals and groups who work tirelessly to improve neighbourhoods and support local people.

This year, residents can also nominate businesses for the first time, recognising companies that make a real difference to the city.

Multiple awards are presented each year, alongside a Young Person’s Civic Award for those aged 11 to 19, celebrating positive role models or young people dedicated to helping others.

Council leader Cllr Steve Pitt said: “The Civic Awards are our way of saying thank you to those who give their time, energy and passion to make Portsmouth a better place.

“Whether it’s a volunteer who never stops fundraising, a group supporting vulnerable residents, or a young person making a big impact in their school or community, we want to hear about them. Please take a few minutes to nominate someone who deserves recognition.”

Nominations can be made by contacting the Lord Mayor’s office by email at [email protected] or by calling 02392 834706, with a nomination form provided on request.

All nominations must be submitted by 28 February 2026.

Winners will be announced at the mayor-making ceremony in May.
