The £7.5 million project, approved by Gosport Borough Council, will create a green space called People’s Park, bringing new life to the area and offering residents and visitors a place to enjoy harbour views.
The 53-year-old bus station has been demolished to make way for the phased project, which is also expected to create jobs and support local businesses, and the work is ongoing to prepare the ground for the construction phase.
Phase one of the project focuses on landscaping and infrastructure, including 1,400 sqm of new grassed public space, 20 new trees, evergreen shrubs, and bulb planting. In addition, a resin-bound gravel path linking the promenade to the High Street walkway and a new performance space will be constructed.
Phase two will introduce a purpose-built performance structure for live events, a building for cafés and bars, new public toilets, a modern ferry ticket kiosk, and a bicycle repair concession.
