Progress made on new Fareham Park community centre as council provides encouraging update

Exciting progress is being made for a community centre to be redeveloped.

Plans for a new community centre at Fareham Park have taken a major step forward.

Fareham Borough Council has appointed a construction company, with architects also on board, to submit a planning application for the long-awaited building, with the aim of providing a modern and flexible hub for residents.

The new centre will replace the existing building, which was built in the early 1990s and is currently the smallest community centre in the borough. The council says the replacement has been designed in response to growing demand and the changing needs of the local community.

It will provide more than 800 square metres of community space, around four times the size of the current centre.

The council has appointed regional contractor Neilcott Construction Ltd, which has in turn brought along architects Boyle and Summers.

The proposed facility will include a main hall, secondary hall, youth and pre-school spaces, a quiet and counselling room, kitchen and social areas. Outside, there will be landscaping and a petanque terrain.

The project has been developed with input from community groups and local residents, with the aim of creating flexible spaces that can be used for activities, services and events by people of all ages. It will form the next stage of a wider transformation of Fareham Park's community and leisure facilities.

The first phase was completed in September 2025, when a new accessible play area and multi-use social area (MUSA) were officially opened at Fareham Park Recreation Ground.

Ciaran O'Leary, regional director for Neilcott Construction, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by the council to deliver this important community project.

“As a regional contractor, we are committed to maximising opportunities for local businesses wherever possible and creating lasting social value throughout the project. Alongside the construction work itself, we look forward to supporting skills development by engaging with local schools and colleges to offer a number of training and employment opportunities, supporting local community groups, and delivering wider benefits that leave a positive legacy for Fareham Park."

Councillor Frair Burgess, executive member for leisure and community at Fareham Borough Council, added: “This is an exciting moment for the community of Fareham Park. Submitting the planning application is an important step towards delivering a much-needed new community facility for Fareham Park. The new building will provide modern, flexible spaces that support a wide range of activities and services, helping to strengthen community connections and improve opportunities for residents of all ages."

Details of the plans and the different project phases are available on Fareham Borough Council's website.
