Portsmouth residents invited to have their say on seafront barbecue rules
Portsmouth residents can have their say on seafront barbecue and music rules.
Rules around barbecues and amplified music could change as Portsmouth residents are invited to have their say on their use at popular seafront spots.
Portsmouth City Council has launched a consultation covering Canoe Lake, Southsea Common and Castle Field.
Residents, businesses, visitors and community groups are being invited to share their experiences of how the spaces are used, as well as their thoughts on the use of barbecues and amplified music.

The council is seeking views on issues including outdoor recreation, community use, litter, noise, the impact on wildlife and the management of designated barbecue areas.
It said no decisions have been made and the feedback will be used to inform future discussions about how the areas are managed.
Councillor Lee Hunt, cabinet member for community safety, leisure and sport, said: “Portsmouth’s seafront spaces are enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors throughout the year.
“We know people have a wide range of views about public barbecues and amplified music, and we want to better understand those views before considering any future approach.
“This consultation is about listening. No decisions have been made and we are keen to hear from people who use these spaces regularly, as well as those who live nearby, work nearby or visit occasionally.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in these areas to take a few minutes to complete the survey and help shape future discussions.”
The consultation also asks about the current arrangements, the benefits barbecues bring to public spaces, issues people may have experienced and possible future management measures.
Residents, businesses and visitors can take part online by completing the survey at: https://www.research.net/r/SBBQ_Live

The consultation closes on 11 October 2026.
