Plans submitted for Ocean Apartments to add five new seaside flats

Ocean Apartments on Southsea seafront could be altered to create five additional flats under a new planning application submitted to Portsmouth City Council.

The plans relate to the Ocean Apartments at 8–10 St Helens Parade, a group of four linked buildings overlooking Southsea seafront.

The application seeks to reconfigure the central rear wing from across the upper ground floor to the fourth floor, creating five extra apartments.

Currently, the central rear wing contains ten two-bedroom flats, housing around 40 people. The proposed layout would increase the total number of apartments to 15, with a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, reducing overall occupancy to 31 residents.

The applicant says the changes would make “more efficient use of the available space”.

The Ocean Apartments have been under the same ownership since 1996 and are described as offering “quality accommodation to suit most circumstances and budgets” for short and long term stays.

The buildings are located just a few yards from Canoe Lake, and local shops, with a choice of one- to four-bedroom apartments, all fully furnished and self-contained with views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

The proposal would slightly increase the demand for car parking To meet the shortfall, the applicant proposes two off-street spaces at the front of the building.

You can view and comment on the application on the council’s website using the planning reference 25/01484/FUL.
