Outdoor play space expanded at Hamble Primary School to support children with special educational needs
Plans have been submitted to expand parking and outdoor play space at Hamble Primary School as part of proposals to support children with special educational needs.
Under Hampshire County Council’s proposals, a new 12-place autistic spectrum condition (ASC) resource provision would be created for children aged 7–11 at the school.
An existing modular classroom, currently used for mainstream teaching, would be repurposed to house the new unit. As the building has reached the end of its original planning lifespan, permission is also being sought to extend its use on site.
Alongside this, a new secure outdoor play and learning area is planned next to the unit.

It would be built on existing grassed land and include artificial surfacing, sensory planting, fixed play equipment, a raised timber deck, and a glazed canopy to support year-round use.
The area would be enclosed by a timber perimeter fence up to 2.4 metres high, with gated access to ensure a secure environment for pupils.
Changes are also planned to parking and drop-off arrangements at the front of the school, within existing access and circulation routes.
These would include re-marking existing spaces, reconfiguring the car park, and converting part of a grassed area into four dedicated drop-off bays.

The plans aim to create a separate drop-off system for pupils attending the new provision, with staggered arrival and departure times designed to prevent congestion at peak periods.
According to the planning statement, the changes are intended to improve traffic flow and make access safer and more manageable for families and staff.
