"A clear passion for the borough" - new chief executive will take the helm at Havant Borough Council
A new chief executive has been appointed to take over Havant Borough Council with its outgoing boss retiring this week.
Following a rigorous, multi-stage interview process, the appointment of Matt Goodwin was formally approved by a Full Council meeting with his first day in the role will be Monday, November 10. Outgoing Chief Executive Steve Jorden will be retiring tomorrow (Friday, November 7).
Matt Goodwin has served in several senior roles at Havant Borough Council since first joining in 2018. The council said he has extensive management experience developed from working with multiple organisations including West Sussex County Council, the National Health Service and Royal Mail.

Councillor Phil Munday – Leader of Havant Borough Council – said: “I am delighted to see Matt take over the role of Chief Executive. From his time at the council to date, he has already developed a comprehensive understanding of the organisation, which means he lands in his new role ready to go.
“His experience, understanding and clear passion for the borough will prove invaluable as we not only deal with the day-to-day challenges of a local authority, but also those arising from local government reorganisation and increasing financial pressures.”
Outgoing Chief Executive Steve Jorden said: “After 40 years of working in Local Government, it is time to stand aside and let someone else take the helm. I’m delighted to see Matt come through the robust selection process and believe he will be an excellent Chief Executive.
“It has been a highlight of my career to work for Havant Borough Council, driving forward on change and working closely with members to deliver their ambitions. I am very grateful to the hard-working staff at the council who work tirelessly, often in very challenging conditions, to do the best they can for all our residents, delivering real benefits to our various communities.”
