Nearly 30,000 EU residents in Hampshire apply to stay in the UK
ALMOST 30,000 applications for European residents to remain in Hampshire have been completed, according to the county council.
After the UK’s departure from the European Union began on January 21, residents living in the country were given until June 30, 2021, to complete apply to the government’s EU Settlement Scheme.
Hampshire County Council figures show that two thirds of EU residents have completed the application process.
In total, 28,790 applications have been concluded.

Councillor Andrew Joy, executive member for communities, partnerships and external affairs, said: ‘These latest figures show an increase of 13 per cent from December and mean than 69 per cent of Hampshire’s 43,000 EU citizens have signed up to the scheme, which is very encouraging.
‘Those Hampshire’s EU residents who have not yet applied to the scheme, and wish to do so, still have time to register.
‘I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate that we consider these residents part of the Hampshire ‘family’ – who are greatly valued.’
Applicants will get settled or pre-settled status.
