Havant MP Alan Mak takes up role as government whip in wake of Johnny Mercer sacking

THE MP for Havant has been named a government whip.

Alan Mak will stop speaking in House of Commons debates and tabling questions for ministers.

Instead he will help government get MPs to vote on legislation. Mr Mak was the Conservative Party's vice-chair and co-chairman of the party's policy board.

He will serve the chief whip and prime minister.

Mr Mak said: ‘I’m delighted to be appointed as a minister by the prime minister, and I look forward to helping deliver the government’s policy agenda in Westminster.

‘My work as Havant constituency MP is unchanged, and I will remain active in our community, continue helping local residents and carry on organising my community events.’

The Havant MP has previously spoken out against ‘unjustified’ historic complaints about service personnel, an issue Mr Mercer cared deeply about.
