We're determined to revive Knowle and Funtley's scrapped lifeline bus that's left locals stranded

Opposition councillors in Fareham hope to help find a solution to the axing of a “lifeline” bus route.

First’s 20 bus serving Knowle and Funtley villages was withdrawn on Sunday as Hampshire County Council cut its funding.

Residents have said their “lifeline” bus service has been taken away, and they have been left “completely without transport”.

Leader of the opposition at Fareham Borough Council, David Hamilton, said he has been working alongside residents’ associations, parish councils and other community groups.

He said: “Nothing may come of it, but we are determined to try.

“Once we realised Hampshire County Council were determined to pull it, we started engaging with the bus operator directly and those talks are ongoing.”

“For people in Knowle and Funtley this wasn’t just a bus – it was a lifeline to school, to healthcare, to work. Losing it will be a real blow.”

He said while talks will not bring the number 20 back, they are looking at whether anything can be done to ease the impact.

Cllr Hamilton confirmed a member of his group has had a constructive meeting with First Bus and discussions are ongoing.
