Police issue update after thieves steal Fareham council van for collecting bins and fly-tipping
A stolen Fareham Borough Council work van has been recovered by police.
The Transit-style vehicle, fitted with a caged rear and used for collecting litter bins and small fly-tipping, was taken from White Hart Lane in Portchester on February 23.
Council leader Simon Martin confirmed the theft was reported to police and warned at the time that the vehicle could be misused.

In a message to residents, Cllr Martin urged the public to “remain alert” and contact police immediately if the van was spotted, stressing that no one should approach it.
He said: “We are asking residents and businesses to stay vigilant. There is a risk the vehicle could be misused or that individuals could attempt to masquerade as council officers.
“Thank you for your vigilance and support.”
Following enquiries, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the van had been located in Swanmore and recovered.
A spokesperson said: “We received a report at 11.26am on Monday 23 February of the theft of a van from White Hart Lane in Portchester.
“Following enquiries, the van was subsequently located in Swanmore and has since been recovered.
“No arrests have been made in relation to this incident.”
