Fareham civic chiefs green-light plans to snap up land so much-needed affordable homes can be built
Civic chiefs have approved a bid to buy land in Fareham to build affordable homes.
Members of the Fareham Borough Council executive agreed on Monday, November 3 to progress plans to buy a site in the Fareham Park area.
Details of the location, cost and how many homes could be built were withheld from the public meeting.

A public report said the decision allows the director of housing and health, Robyn Lyons, in consultation with the executive member for housing, Cllr Fred Birkett to agree the final acquisition cost and terms of purchase.
The report added: “The site is well located and suited to provide a redevelopment opportunity, providing much needed affordable homes. ”
Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Ian Bastable (Con, Park Gate) said: “It is important to keep finding these sites and to attempt to build homes. It is important to keep filling the funnel at the front.”

Cllr Birkett agreed and said: “It is an important part of the housing teams’ work to ensure that funnel of work is continuous as we move forward.
“The availability and affordability of those houses for people on Fareham Borough Council’s waiting list is an amazing piece of work and not easy.”
Councillor Connie Hockley (Con, Titchfield) said she was delighted there would be more council homes.
Officers will now liaise with the owner of the site to progress the purchase, the council report said.
