Fareham council gets 100,000 new bins and five lorries ahead of sweeping changes to collections
Homes across the borough of Fareham will be getting new bins in the new year as major changes are made to collections.
Tens of thousands of bins have been delivered to Fareham Borough Council and are ready to be deployed as part of the council’s new weekly food waste collection service in the new year.
The executive member for Streetscene, Councillor Ian Bastable, confirmed that Fareham residents should expect the new bins to arrive at their doors between January and March, when the service starts.

At a full council meeting of Fareham Borough Council on December 18, he said five new bin lorries and 100,000 food waste bins and caddies have been received.
Cllr Bastable (Con, Park Gate) said: “Seeing over 100,000 outdoor food waste bins and kitchen caddies, all in one place, is an impressive sight to behold and shows the scale of the delivery operation we will be undertaking in the new year.”
The food caddies will be delivered to 52,000 households and add another bin on the doorstep. Each household will receive an outdoor food waste bin for kerbside collection, and a kitchen caddy to collect food waste in the home.
Food waste is a third of all household refuse in Fareham.
The new food waste service, due to begin on March 30, is part of the government’s Simpler Recycling scheme to minimise waste and drive-up recycling rates across the country.
