Council tells Havant residents not to light bonfires or annoy people with 'noisy DIY jobs' during lockdown

COUNCILLORS have called on borough residents not to be ‘nuisance neighbours’ during the government’s lockdown – urging them instead to be ‘respectful and considerate’ to the people around them.

The plea from Havant Borough Council comes as the authority advises its residents not to light bonfires, burn household waste or make too much noise.

The council warned smoke and toxic gases from the controlled fires could have a ‘serious effect’ on people with asthma and heart disease.

Councillor Narinder Bains, Havant Borough Council’s cabinet lead for neighbourhoods, safety and enforcement, said: ‘People are spending long periods at home and cannot go out, so it is essential that everyone is more considerate to their neighbours.

‘Please think about how you behave at this time – don’t light bonfires during the lockdown and try to think about the impact loud music or noisy DIY jobs might have on your neighbours who may be poorly or self isolating.’

The council urged anyone with any concerns about environmental issues in their neighbourhood to call (023) 9244 6019 or go to havant.gov.uk
