Campaigners celebrate victory against 46 new homes

CAMPAIGNERS are pleased after a planning application was refused at a meeting.

Residents from Warsash feel they have ‘won a battle’ after a proposal for 46 homes on land south west of Sovereign Crescent was refused by the Fareham Borough Council planning committee after concerns were raised over access.

Rob Megginson from the Save Warsash and the Western Wards said: ‘We are pleased that this application has been refused by the council and we have certainly won this battle.

‘However this is one of many in a war.’

Resident Chris Nixon also believes the win is just a ‘hiccup’.

He said: ‘I am chuffed to rocks that Fareham Borough Council had the back bone to reject this application but it is not a win, simply a hiccup in this mess we can not win.’

Concerns were also raised regarding whether the applicant might appeal against the decision.

Mr Nixon said: ‘I would bet money this comes to appeal as other applications have done.’

The application included a range of one-and- two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four- bedroom houses and is situated between nature reserves. The proposal received more than 350 objections.

Ward Councillor Trevor Cartwright is against ‘excessive housing numbers’ in Warsash.

Cllr Cartwright said: ‘I am very pleased with the outcome and I think this is a good decision especially given the traffic issues that would occur.’

In regards to the application being appealed, Cllr Cartwright added: ‘There is of course the possibility that this decision could be appealed but we would have to wait and see and I doubt it would be for a while if it were the case.’
