Bin collection times changing in Portsmouth and Fareham this week - what you need to know
The bin collection dates are not being changed at the time of publication, The News has been told.
Bin collection times in Portsmouth and the surrounding area are changing this week because of the heatwave.
Portsmouth City Council and Fareham Borough Council have confirmed that bins will be collected earlier in the morning this week, as a result of the ongoing hot weather. It comes as temperatures are expected to soar as high as 40 degrees celsius in some parts of England and Wales, with a red weather warning in place for parts of Hampshire on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Fareham Borough Council stated that these earlier collection times will come into effect as of tomorrow (Tuesday, June 23), to “help protect crews working in high temperatures and maintain essential services”.
Actual bin collection dates are not being changed at the time of publication, but residents have been advised to put their bins out the night before their usual scheduled collection.
The statement from Fareham Borough Council added: “Up-to-date information on bin collections, including any changes due to weather conditions, will be shared on the council’s website and social media channels, and residents are encouraged to check regularly.”
Posting on social media, a spokesperson for Portsmouth City Council said: “All our waste collection rounds will start earlier next week, because of the amber heat health alert, so our staff can avoid the hottest part of the day.
“Please have your bins ready for collection by 6am on your collection day or after 7pm the night before to help us, thank you.”
Gosport Borough Council has confirmed that bin collection times and dates are set to remain the same throughout this week.
In Havant, bin collections are looked after by Norse South East, collecting waste and recycling on the council’s behalf. A spokesperson for Havant Borough Council has told The News that the collection times will remain the same, with staff starting at 7am each day this week.
