Art in everyday spaces with 'Between the Stops' project
Portsmouth City Council is supporting Between the Stops, a citywide poetry and photography project that brings local artworks into everyday spaces.
As the city celebrates its centenary, the project celebrates local voices in places used by the whole community such as buses and at transport hubs across the city.

Many of the artists involved are Portsmouth residents who regularly use the city’s public transport. Their work reflects personal experiences of movement, waiting, commuting and arriving, capturing everyday life in the city.
From 28 February to 15 March, a selection of photographs will be displayed in a pop up exhibition at the Hard Interchange. It will be open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm. The idea is to encourage people to experience the artwork as part of their daily routine.
Poems from the project are currently displayed on buses across Portsmouth until the middle of March.
The exhibition will give residents and visitors the chance to learn more about the artists and their work. A short spoken word performance will take place on Saturday 14 March from 1pm to 1.30pm at the Hard Interchange.
Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said: “Between the Stops is a wonderful reminder that public transport is more than a way of getting around, it is a shared space where people, stories and communities meet.
“As Cabinet Member for Transport, I’m proud to support a project that brings creativity into the heart of our transport network and celebrates the everyday journeys that connect our city.”
Between the Stops is produced by City Arts Portsmouth CIC in partnership with Portsmouth City Council, Solent by First Bus and Stagecoach South.
