The horror incident happened in Northlands Road, Totton, around 10.50pm on Saturday night - sparking a massive fire service response from across the county.

But despite the efforts of emergency services they were unable to save the woman, who it has been reported was trapped upstairs when the blaze broke out. She died at the scene. Her parents managed to escape the house.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: "Sadly, despite the very best efforts of the emergency services, a 25-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been notified.

"A man in his 60s, who was also inside the property at the time, has been taken to hospital and is in a life-threatening condition.

"We would ask that people respect the family’s privacy at this unimaginably difficult time and refrain from any speculation."

The fire service is investigating what caused the fire.
