Whiteley Shopping Centre played to host to its annual Doggie Day as pups of all shapes and sizes became the star of the show.
From fun competitions to agility courses, shoppers were able show off their four legged friends on Saturday, May 23 in what is described as “one of the most anticipated events” in the shopping centre’s calendar.
A beautifully sunny day saw dogs and their owners enjoy a day out with some indulging in a much needed dog-friendly ice cream.
As well as fun activities for dogs and their owners there was also a number of stalls selling a range of canine-related items including natural dog treat, accessories, portable dog showers and artwork.
During the day staff put welfare measures in place to deal with the warmer weather, with shade provided by buildings, gazebos and parasols, and the positioning of water stations positioned across the site and nearby restaurants. There was also a paddling pool for the dogs.
The event was busiest during the morning period, when temperatures were cooler, and organisers took the decision to close the event early once temperatures became significantly warmer.
A spokesperson for Whiteley said: “Whiteley takes animal welfare seriously and is aware of comments raised following Saturday’s Doggie Day event. The event was a charity fundraiser for Guide Dogs UK, with all proceeds donated directly to the charity.
“A number of welfare measures were in place throughout the day, including providing shaded areas, water stations and cooling facilities for dogs, and organisers made the decision to close the event early as temperatures increased. We will continue to review feedback received as part of planning for future events.”
