University of Portsmouth students’ art trail brings photography into the public space through coastal walk from pier to pier
A POP-UP art trail is leading photography lovers on a walk around Southsea.
Running until May 2, the trail of 26 photographs is being hosted by a team of photography students from the University of Portsmouth

This collective, known as Middleman, aims to bring together a variety of diverse photographic practices to explore how the medium of photography might produce a particular form of engagement with the world.
Artists in the collective are Ellie-Mae Burnside, Benjamin Carpin, Lucy Cobbett, Jemma Eyers, Bethany Gallagher, Ryan Hesketh, Sam Lloyd, Oskar Szemiot, Tizz Turner, Zoe Valentine, Thais Verhasselt, Bethany Wicks, and Lottie Wyatt.

The public exhibition, leading viewers on a coastal route from South Parade Pier to Clarence Pier, marks the launch of Middleman.
Thais, team leader for the event, said: ‘We want this exhibition to be an engagement for people to ask questions about the medium of photography and have a different perspective on photography.
‘We’re looking for ways to engage with the public space.’
A zine has also been produced, which will be given away as part of Free Art Friday. It can be found at locations on the photography trail on April 30.
