The much-loved event saw teams race homemade rafts between two piers outside The Jolly Roger, combining friendly competition, creativity and plenty of determination as crews battled the course in front of cheering crowds.
With thousands of spectators lining the shoreline throughout the day, this year's race once again proved why it has become one of Gosport's most anticipated community events.
For a town whose history and identity are deeply intertwined with the Royal Navy, the race is about much more than competition. Gosport remains home to a large naval community, with many serving personnel, veterans, reservists, civilian staff and military families living in the area. The event reflected those enduring connections, with many of the teams taking part representing organisations and groups with close ties to the Naval community.
Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity was proudly represented on the water by Boaty McBeergarden, a team bringing together colleagues from RNRMC and the Volunteer Cadet Corps. Led by Warrant Officer Danny Tregarthen, the team embraced the spirit of the event, joining fellow competitors in a day that celebrated teamwork, camaraderie and community support.
Supporters packed the waterfront, creating a fantastic atmosphere as crews navigated the harbour waters, encouraged by enthusiastic applause from family, friends and local residents.
Away from the water, there was plenty for visitors to enjoy. An incredible raffle generated excitement throughout the day, while fundraising collections helped support Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity's work with serving personnel, veterans and their families. Children enjoyed face painting, and visitors were able to stop by the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity stand to learn more about the charity's work, take part in activities and pick up merchandise.
A spokesperson for the event said: “The event showcased the very best of Gosport; a town with a proud Naval heritage and a strong sense of support for its military community. Whether competing in the race, volunteering behind the scenes, buying raffle tickets or simply cheering from the shore, everyone contributed to a day that celebrated community, camaraderie and connection.
“Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity would like to thank the entire team at The Jolly Roger for their hard work, generosity and commitment in delivering such a fantastic event. Their dedication, alongside that of the volunteers, participants and supporters, helped create a memorable day for everyone involved.
“While the final fundraising total is still being counted, the success of the day was already clear to see. The overwhelming support from spectators, participants and local businesses demonstrated the strength of the relationship between Gosport and its Naval community.
“Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity is incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, supported and contributed to the event and looks forward to sharing the final fundraising total in the coming days.
“Thank you, Gosport, for getting behind your naval charity and making this year's Jolly Roger Raft Race such a tremendous success.”
