This Gosport swimmer, 13, is taking on a marathon swim for Blood Cancer UK in a 10-foot inflatable pool
A DEDICATED teenage swimmer is taking on a marathon charity challenge to swim 26.2 miles in a 10-foot inflatable pool in her garden.
Keen competitor Hannah Buzzard, 13, does not have a proper pool to train in at her Gosport home during lockdown but has decided to raise funds for Blood Cancer UK in an unusual challenge.
Over seven days, Hannah is swimming four miles per day to reach the length of a marathon - she will spend around one hour 40 minutes each day taking on the challenge, which will keep her fit while her usual training is not possible.
The Bay House student was inspired to help Blood Cancer UK because of her mum Marie Baxter, who works for the charity and has been taking calls from people who need some extra support at this time.

Hannah said: ‘People with blood cancer are most vulnerable during Covid-19 because of weakened immune systems so I thought it would be good to raise money.
‘I’m quite proud of myself because I have never done anything like this before.’
Hannah has been swimming competitively for five years with Gosport Dolphins, and has even represented herself at county championships.

The young athlete is missing the freedom of swimming in a larger pool but is determined to raise plenty of funds despite the cold water of the outdoor pool, which was seven degrees celsius on Monday.
Proud mum Marie said: ‘She’s always been a water baby so we sent her down to the local club. She’s very competitive and she will do anything for anybody.
‘Over the last two weeks she has seen the impact of lockdown on people with blood cancer.
‘The fundraising sector has been hit hard by this virus, this just shows you that people who are determined to make a difference are finding new ways to do it. For a 13-year-old to do this, it’s something special.’
Hannah’s fundraising efforts have seen more than £270 being donated already, nearing her initial target of £300 to help the charity support those affected by blood cancer and fund research into treatments.
