Southsea firefighters report 'slow' day as tortoise strolls through yard

FIREFIGHTERS reported a ‘slow’ shift today after making the shock discovery of a tortoise strolling across the yard.

Highly trained in rescue operations, firefighters dashed to help the tortoise as he made his way purposefully across Southsea Fire Station.

The tortoise, named Josh by firefighters, was declared ‘safe’ following his ordeal.

Josh’s owners were informed of his whereabouts and are due to collect him later for what is sure to be an emotional reunion.

‘Slow start to training today. Blue watch found a tortoise strolling across the drill yard,’ Southsea Fire Station posted on Twitter.

The message added: ‘The tortoise is safe and sound, fed and watered by CM Baker. Owners informed and collecting later today. We have named him Josh.’
