Southsea daughter raises money for beloved mum who died of a brain tumour and lung cancer
A DEVOTED daughter has toured Southsea on a star jump challenge to honour her mum who died of a brain tumour.
Hazel was already suffering with lung cancer, but when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, she could not fight the battle any longer. Rebecca completed the Cancer Research race for life the year after her mum died, and this year she wanted to do something.
She stumbled across the Brain Tumour Research challenge on her Facebook and decided to take part, completing 100 star jumps every day through the whole of November – but she did not stop there.

She said: ‘The first day of my challenge, I had the tv on and I saw a kid with a brain tumour and I thought ‘this is why I am doing this’.
‘It is not a nice illness to take someone and it can cause people to lose their sight and have fits, luckily my mum didn’t have any of that but the Macmillan nurses warned us about it, and there are people out there that do suffer that.’

Across the challenge, she found herself at the Kings Theatre, Queen’s Hotel and began and ended the challenge by her mum’s side at the graveyard she is buried in.
In order to keep everyone engaged, she sent a video to each person that sponsored her and saw her friends and family get involved.
She added: ‘A couple of times I had angel wings on and where I was jumping, the feathers were all coming out, and you can hear my dad laughing saying ‘your bloody feathers are coming out.’
‘It was nice for us to do together and he was so excited, he was really chuffed.’
