Probe underway after waste lorry caught fire on M3 causing long delays
A probe is underway after a waste lorry caught fire on the M3 causing long delays.

Fire crews were called to the southbound carriageway near Winchester between junction 10 and 11 around 4pm on Wednesday to deal with the blaze, as reported.
The incident left the motorway partially blocked and caused “stop-start” delays even after it had been cleared.
Fire crews “dampened down” the HGV before it carried on its journey, with the fire service saying further checks would be carried out once it arrived at its destination. No further issues were reported, the fire service said on Thursday.
The cause is not currently known as investigations are made to establish what happened. The fire service have not said whether the truck was a council vehicle.
A fire service spokesperson said on Wednesday: “We were called to a lorry fire on the M3 south, junction 10, at around 4pm. The lorry, which contained waste for recycling, was dampened down by crews from Eastleigh and Winchester.
“The vehicle is now leaving the scene and travelling to its destination, where crews will re-assess the contents to confirm the fire is out.”
