Record on DJ’s label hit number one in charts

A Portsmouth DJ said it is a “dream come true” after reaching number one on a major worldwide chart.

Matt Handy said he was “blown away” after the track hit top spot in the Worldwide Beatport Chart, which features the top 100 trance releases.

The recently released single Follow The Sound by Matteo Abbracci was released on Matt’s label Hands On Records, which specialises in electronic music.

The 51-year-old, who last year celebrated his 30-year career with famous DJ Graham Gold at Southsea Beach Cafe, is now toasting his latest success. “It is very hard to get a number one single so this is good news for all independent artists and labels,” Matt said.

“We are honestly blown away this week by the support on this release. To make it to number one in a major worldwide chart is honestly a dream come true. It is the holy grail of artists. Absolutely unbelievable.

“So much work has gone into my career over the last 30 years and this is definitely a bucket list moment. We can’t quite believe it.

“It’s truly fantastic to see all the hard work come to fruition. Thanks so much everyone that has supported Hands On Records over the years. Look out for more great music to come from talented creative artists on Hands On Records.”

Hands On Records has built up a catalogue of thousands of records which Matt sells and ships all over the world from his Portsmouth base. His love for the genre started in 1986 when aged 12 he bought his first record, and then grew when he started playing decks a year later.

Matt, who previously had record shops in Albert Road and in Fareham, now operates solely online. He estimated he has sold records totalling in the 100,000s.
