Portsmouth City Council issues warning about illegal parking after campervans camp overnight at the D-Day Story Museum car park
ILLEGAL parking and camping will be ‘dealt with’ by the relevant authorities.
The warning was issued Portsmouth City Council’s deputy leader Steve Pitt after he confirmed three campervans were yesterday (April 3) parked overnight in the D-Day Story Museum car park.

Concerns had been raised the car park of the popular tourist attraction could be being used as a temporary campsite but Cllr Pitt has now confirmed the campervans, which were decamped in the car park’s coach bays, have now left.
Cllr Pitt said: ‘It has been confirmed that three campervans illegally stayed overnight in the car park and we have been monitoring the situation. At the moment we don’t know who they are and whether they were simply holiday-makers who stayed overnight, but any unauthorised campers are a concern.
‘Whoever they were they should not have been there overnight and the police and parking authorities will follow through on anyone parked illegally.’
While the stay at home message has ended, camping and caravan sites remain closed until April 12 with indoor hospitality to remain closed until May 17 at the earliest.
Last week travellers camped in the car park of the Lakeside North Harbour business park in Cosham.
At the time the council said they had provided refuse sacks and that ‘further action was under review’.
