Woman to abseil Spinnaker Tower for charity on wedding anniversary in memory of her late husband
Amelia Ternan has raised over £10,500 for a charity that helped her late husband through his cancer
On what would have been their eighth wedding anniversary, a woman will abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in memory of her late husband to raise money for the Association for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Disorders.
Amelia Ternan will take on the daring challenge on Sunday in memory of her husband Marvin, who died in March aged just 40 after complications related to adrenocortical cancer. The couple also have two young daughters.
“He spent time in Qatar for work, and was getting treatment in Abu Dhabi,” said Marvin’s best friend, Paul Harris. “I was meant to go and visit him but I couldn’t after they cancelled all the flights when the war kicked off in the Middle East.”

Amelia was visiting Marvin while he was in hospital when the war began, and she got stuck in the UAE. However, this meant that she was in the country when Marvin passed away.
“Because of the war it took three or four weeks to get his body back to the UK,” said Paul.

After Marvin died, Amelia decided to change the date of the event to August 16, which would have been the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary.
She will be abseiling down the 170m tower on Sunday morning, and has raised over £10,500 for the Association for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Disorders, a charity that supports people with adrenocortical cancer.
