'Lovely ladies' rescued from muddy Denmead field by firefighters
TWO ladies have been hauled from a muddy field after being stuck there for almost an hour.
Firefighters were called to a field between Closewood Road and Furzeley Golf Course in Denmead this afternoon to rescue the pair, who inadvertently walked into a ‘quagmire’ and ended up stuck fast.
Crews from Cosham and Waterlooville Fire Stations came to the women’s aid.
Watch manager Craig Sadler from Cosham Fire Station said: ‘We were called at 3pm today – but the ladies had already been there for about 45 minutes.
‘One of the ladies was up to her knees in mud, so we had to act quickly.
‘They had tried to self-rescue, bless them, so were absolutely covered in mud as well.’
After 20 minutes, firefighters managed to get the two ladies onto firmer ground.

They were then checked over by South Central Ambulance Service and went home – but accidentally left their walking sticks behind.
Watch manager Sadler added: ‘They were absolutely lovely ladies, very chatty, and explained that they had just taken a wrong turn while out on a walk.
‘We have their walking sticks and would love to reunite them with those. Our fire station is in Wayte Street and it would be great to see them again.’
Since returning from the scene, the fire station washing machine has been spinning non-stop, with crews describing the field as ‘horrible’.
Firefighters are advising that people stick to the beaten path when on their daily walks.
‘Exercise is really important, of course,’ said watch manager Sadler.
‘But our advice is to be mindful of the heavy rain we’ve had, and stay on the pathways if possible.’
