Isle of Wight Festival organisers open door to event this summer as they 'explore options'

ORGANISERS have raised the prospect the Isle of Wight Festival could go ahead this summer after revealing they are ‘exploring options’.

Following prime minister Boris Johnson’s road map speech on the way out of lockdown on Monday, organisers of the four-day festival said they will now make an announcement next week.

The festival is planned to take place from June 17-20 but with this coming before step four of the road map on June 21 - where large events will be allowed - questions remain over the possibility of it taking place. However, the event could be pushed back.

Mr Johnson said the government hopes to lift all restrictions by the end of June albeit with restrictions such as social distancing and face coverings remaining.

Festival organisers, posting on social media, said: ‘Following the prime minister's statement, we're exploring our options and we'll be back with more information next week.’
